maryland licensing requirements

Licenses Available: Esthetician, Cosmetologist, Electrologist, Nail Technician

Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1500 hours (or 24 months as registered apprentice)
Electrologist: 600 hours
Esthetician: 600 hours (or 12 months as registered apprentice)
Nail Technician: 250 hours (or 8 months as registered apprentice)

Minimum Requirements: All applicants must have be 17 and have 9th grade education or equivalent.

Reciprocity: An individual, who possesses a current license in another state and who can provide certification that their license was obtained under the same standards as required in Maryland and is in good standing and current, is eligible for a license by endorsement (reciprocity).

To apply for a Licensure by Endorsement you will need to fill out the Reciprocity Application and then mail the Board a copy of your current license and a Certification of Licensure from your original State Board to confirm equal training, testing, no interpreter used, and that your license is current and in good standing.
