louisiana licensing requirements
Licenses Available: Cosmetologist, Nail Technician, Esthetician, Electrologist
Required Hours:
Cosmetology: 1500 hours
Electrologist: 600 hours (or 600 apprenticeship)
Esthetics: 750 hours
Nail Technology: 500 hours
Minimum Requirements: All applicants must have completed at least 2 years of high school or its equivalent and be at least 16 years of age.
Reciprocity: Applications must submit the following:
- CURRENT ORIGINAL LICENSE, (which will be returned after processing)
- ONE CURRENT PICTURE (wallet size)
- CERTIFICATION OF HOURS EARNED PLEASE CONTACT THE STATE BOARD OFFICE IN THE STATE THAT YOU WERE ORIGINALLY LICENSED AND HAVE THEM MAIL THIS INFORMATION DIRECTLY TO OUR OFFICE.
- TOTAL FEE OF $50.00 FOR A LOUISIANA RESIDENT - $75.00 FOR A NONRESIDENT APPLICANT
- A COPY OF YOUR DRIVER LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION CARD ALONG WITH A COPY OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY CARD.
- ALL APPLICANTS MUST TAKE A STATE WRITTEN EXAM.
The state exam is based on Louisiana regulations. Copies of the regulations can be downloaded from the internet web-site www.lsbc.louisiana.gov.
