colorado licensing requirements
Licenses Available: Cosmetology, Barber, Cosmetician, and Manicurist
Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1450 Hours
Barber: 1250 Hours
Hairstylist: 1140 Hours
Manicurist: 350 Hours
Cosmetician: 550 Hours
Minimum Requirements: All applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
Reciprocity: Yes, Colorado offers reciprocity if candidate holds an active license in another state with equivalent hours. License by Endorsement costs $75. You must:
- Submit application, along with the non-refundable application fee for each license type you select (see application form for current fees).
- Complete and return the attached Affidavit of Eligibility Form. Pursuant to CRS 24-34-107, all applicants for licensure are required to complete and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, and may also be required to provide a secure and verifiable document.
- Request that verification of licensure be sent directly to our office from ALL states where you have been licensed to practice during the last five (5) years, including the state where you were originally licensed. The Verification of Licensure form must be dated within 90 days from the date of your Colorado application.
- If you have been working in Colorado, Florida, or New York, complete and return the attached Work Experience Affidavit. The Work Experience Affidavit must contain the original signature of both the applicant and the employer. The form may be reproduced if you worked at more than one location. If you have been self-employed, please provide copies of personal income tax returns showing both personal income and business profit as proof of practice.
