student activities and upcoming events

Each student is encouraged to participate in competitions sponsored by cosmetology and other industry related associations, beauty supply companies, etc. Competition is an extra-cirricular activity, and the student does not receive credit for time spent in preparation or participation. Contests are an excellent professional experience, and help to build confidence in acquired skills. Guest lecturers are invited to the school as often as possible. Guest demonstrations of current fashions and techniques broaden student exposure to cosmetology arts and sciences.

2009 earth week campaign

April was Earth Month! Thanks to your efforts, the Douglas J Aveda Institutes of Michigan raised over $23,000 benefitting the Alliance for the Great Lakes.

2009 edwin neill ii award

The Edwin Neill II Full Potential Award was created to memorialize one of the greatest motivators in the Aveda Network. A role model for all, Edwin Neill II not only believed in our mission, but lived it on a daily basis. His greatest memory will be his contribution to the youth of the beauty industry. This award will emphasize Edwin's belief in Edward Demming's philosophy of Team versus Individual Achievement, which he brought to our network.

2009 beacon symposium

When: July 18 - 21, 2009
Where: Mandalay Bay Convention Center Las Vegas, NV

Beacon is your opportunity to network with and learn from some of the most successful salon/spa owners in the industry. Learn what they are looking for in new talent and how to market yourself to potential employers. You'll sit side by side with famed stylists turned prosperous business owners during the Symposium general sessions. Then, you'll attend Beacon breakout sessions facilitated by these same salon superstars on topics such as interviewing, career choices, client base and being part of a team.

Beacon accepts just 100 cosmetology students each year. Beacon winners receive free tuition to PBA Symposium.
