admission requirements
The Douglas J Aveda Institute reserves the right to refuse admittance to anyone unable to meet the school's admission citeria. To be considered for admission, an applicant must:
- Have a career planning session and a tour of Douglas J Aveda Institute with a member of the admissions team.
- Complete and submit an admission form.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, employer, or the leader of a group with which the applicant has been a contributing member.
- Submit a letter of intent.
- Submit a high school transcript, high school diploma, or a copy of the general education diploma (GED).*
- Submit the registration fee.
- Submit a copy of a Michigan Cosmetology, Esthiology, or other proof of license eligibility (Instructor's course only).
*The State of Michigan's age of compulsory school attendance is the equivalency of a ninth grade education. The Douglas J Aveda Institute maintains a higher educational standard, and requires that a student has acquired a high school diploma or GED equivalency in order to be considered for acceptance.

Individuals interested in attending the Douglas J Aveda Institute should call the school to arrange a career planning session and tour.
- Applicants accepted for admission will be notified in writing.
- Candidates must sign an enrollment agreement prior to beginning classes at Douglas J Aveda Institute.

Admissions office hours are 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment. For the convenience of prospective and current students, Admissions Coordinator and Financial Aid office hours vary. Please call the Admissions department to make an appointment.
